Inspired by melodica’s recent post, I was craving pie for lunch. We went to a cafe and I expressed my desire for apple pie to my coworkers. The cafe had no pie, but I had planted a seed in Justin’s head. His craving for pie grew and grew. The movie sparked Ashot’s appetite and we three went on a hunt for apple pie. The Chef and the Butler? No dice. Seedy diner on 3rd? SOL. We decide to head to Whole Foods as the one place we knew there would be pie.

Upon entering, I am surrounded by the smell of stargazers and roses. Ahhhhh Whole Foods. We head straight for the bakery. There are muffins, cookies and bread. There are chocolate cakes — sleeping beauties blisfully unaware of their seductive powers as they dream of love inside their sterile glass tomb. We find some pies, only big enough to fill the void of two bellies. I find another pie on the other side of a table. It looks lonely sandwiched between the chocolate brownies and angel food cake, as all it’s sisters have been sold long ago.

We discover The Pie Table. We scoop up two luscious apple pies (they don’t put up too much of a fight) and wander toward the frozen foods. Ice cream.

Triumphant, we parade into the office and the villagers impatiently gather around to watch as we unwrap our prize.

The apple is sweet and a touch tart. The ice cream is cool and velvety. The crust is light and crumbly. The cinnamon sings little love songs on my tongue.

It was almost as good as a blinky toy.
