woa…
Grigory Perelman refuses Fields Medal. How often does this happen? I know this is totally gossipy, but what’s the deal with him?
and in other news: “In the last few months, trade groups representing music publishers have used the threat of copyright lawsuits to shut down guitar tablature sites.People can get it for free on the Internet, and its hurting the songwriters, said Lauren Keiser, who is president of the Music Publishers Association and chief executive of Carl Fischer, a music publisher in New York.” article
Please, this makes me want to throw up.

Re: Perelman– he’s a character. He was one of our post-doctoral fellows a while back, meaning my boss worked with him for 3 years when he was here on campus. She said he was a bit odd, but nice. Very quiet. Always wore the same jacket, didn’t really interact with the other members of our department. He lives with his mother in Russia. He’s kind of a recluse. No one’s really surprised that he turned it down. I think he’s the kind of person that’s a complete genius but desperately doesn’t want attention.
That’s all I got. :)

Re: guitar tab thing: people have seen this coming for a while now. It’s very sad, but even more stupid. By having tabs it increases the exposure / love-spreading of your music! And no one buys the damn books anyway, they are overpriced, and hard to find, and it’s stupid.
Worst case, I guess everyone will become really good with their ear-skills.
