Twatter
Twatter.org still makes me smile. Don’t forget to note the beautifully drawn background graphic.

I’m not going and I will hate all your ‘tweets’ about what/who you are doing while you are there. Twitter, I’m still waiting for groups please. I didn’t plan on going early enough, and with the recent traveling and my sister’s wedding, I don’t have the resources to go. I’m not crying. After all, living in SF allows me plenty of opportunities for geek-a-thons (and I still spend most of my time napping).

I would be interested in going to sxsw next year for the music portion since I’ve never been to a large music festival (I hate feeling stuck so I avoid huge crowds). If I’m going to feel trapped in a crowd I might as well do it in an unfamiliar city.

The sexy Steve Sleeve

I love Timbuk2. Their bags are too sporty/casual for my everyday style, but I appreciate the fun colors and abundance of well-placed pockets. The Steve Sleeve makes me love them a little bit more.

Anyone who has the Air should definitely have this absurd accessory. I’m tempted to buy one–I could store my precious chicken hat in it, or an extra pair of socks, or really flat snacks (skor, laffy taffy, fruit leather, mmmmm).

Burnt Man

Last time I saw the eclipse I was sitting on soft cool sand between the man and the esplanade. Millions of stars twinkled around me, unfazed by the flaming art pieces scattered around our slice of desert. As the moon was completely covered, we heard shouting, commotion, and trucks kicking huge puffs of dust as they hurried past. A bullhorn: “The man is on fire! Everyone turn around. The man is burning!”

What a night.

The next lunar eclipse is three years from now, so it’s worth stepping outside. You can look at it directly without blinding yourself. The moon will be completely eclipsed from 7:01 – 7:51pm pacific. Aside from it’s beauty, you never know what could happen.

The recipe I used for making the movie (adjust to taste):

1) get your fruit from the market or around the house
audio hijack the song (hey, it’s the internet. no need for quality audio)
– steel some photos off his my-your-face-place
– dig up some old clips of the adorable puppy
2) chop and peel into managable chunks and place in blender
– throw it in a video editor. My blender was imovie06.
3) pour some sugar/honey/juice to taste
– add transitions, titles and effects
– toss in a little ken burns (what we lovingly call kenny, or kennyb) on those photos ‘cuz ya know, everyone does it
4) blend
– export you video to a standard format. For imovie I export to quicktime with Sorenson Video 3 compression at 640×480
–go back to step 1/2/3 if necessary
5) serve
– upload it here or here

Mmmm. Yummy movie smoothie.

We launched. Here’s a playlist of all my videos on yahoo. I may try to upload all the videos I have, but they’re scattered over multiple computers and hard drives. Click fullscreen and just sit back and enjoy.

It’s on

I keep saying that I’m going to stop making movies and focus on other projects, but there is something comforting about the process of creating a video. I feel the same way when doing yoga, or reading, or any other activity where I’m completely in control. It’s all very Zen.

Happy V Day.

I couldn't say no

Most people I know dislike Valentine’s Day (aka Singles Awareness Day). The hype, expectations, pressure, disappointment, blah blah blah. Women freak out about being single, or finding the perfect lingerie for their imperfect bodies. Men flail around helplessly trying to figure out which Hollywood fantasy to mimic (dinner out, or a home cooked meal, or how about a picnic? How many blood diamonds should be in the bracelet? Wine/flowers/chocolate?) In in attempt to prevent me from buying this shirt, I reached out to the community for support.

They didn't help

Failure. I returned to the store to buy it, but they were out of my size. Instead of simply walking away, I went home and bought it online. Double fail. This doesn’t make me hate the cheesy holiday any less, even though I have become less cynical over the years. In the past, I worked late and then ran home to hide from all the out of town couples crowding the streets and restaurants. This year I may end up spending Thursday beating the crap out of someone(s).

Hot junior mint action

I’ve finally started looking at the photos I’ve taken in the last several months and they remind me of such fun times.

Coley bought us these wonderful treats for our movie that night (Helvetica at Roxy). These little rascals always fall out of their box and dirty up whatever’s in my purse. Justine’s camera died from junior mints. They need to rethink the design of their boxes. Perhaps they should sell them in large metal tins or have them come with rubber bands that will keep the boxes shut. I guess they expect you to eat them all in one sitting. Still, they are just sooooo sweet and refreshing. I like to eat mine frozen.

Saddness
I bought this cake during my December trip to New York, and it was not happy. I’m a huge fan of Delessio. I’ve heard good things about Kara’s Cupcakes but I haven’t tried them yet. Whole Foods has decent grocery store ones. I like that they sell a few vegan varieties. Where are all the good happy cakes?
