Sunday is Saint Stupid parade! Who’s going & when? I’m a little conflicted between going to the parade and learning how to make fruit infused vodka. I would like a ride down to the boys tomorrow if anyone is going down.

I bought tix for d-dolls June 29 at the Greek. I don’t like that venue, but I love the band too much.Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, Debbie Harry, The Gossip and Margaret Cho are on the performance list. I can’t wait to see the d-doll fans and Lauper fans together.

The show’s $50 (freaking ticketmaster..). I have 1 extra ticket. For some strange reason Dennis isn’t interested in going to Berkeley to an outdoor venue to see Cyndi Lauper. I can’t imagine why.

De La Soul and Zion at the Red Devil Lounge on April 3. Anyone interested? Some of my study abroad friends are going and I’m considering it.

Kid Beyond at Cafe Du Nord. Dennis and I will go if we’re both free.

Kid Beyond and The Lovemakers at the Independent Jan 19. How exciting! Two performs I like playing at the same show. Kid Beyond is a badass beatboxer (he performed at Evilution if anyone remembers that far back).

Is anyone interested in Snow Patrol and Ok Go at Bill Graham? I’m conflicted because the tix are $35 + $9 (fucking livenation…). I like both bands but is it worth that much at Bill Graham?

Clandestine was awesome. wow. There were some great costumes. The interrogation scene was soooooo sosososososoooo hot. Yumminess abounded.

I went to see ok go on thurs. Their music is semi-standard happy pop (which I am really into at the moment) and they are a lot of fun in concert. Like, “we’re gonna set up a mini stage in the middle of the audience to perform our acoustic songs”, “we’re gonna randomly run through the crowd and bounce around”, and “we’re gonna do our music video dance”. The most amusing thing the singer said: “So I hear that San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities in the country.” *crowd cheers*. “Wow, you’re really proud of that?”

Here’s the other movie about ddolls. It’s really interesting to be placed in front of a camera and told to talk. It actually makes me uncomfortable. I usually prefer to be on the other side of the camera, though I may continue this experiment of filming myself speak. I like trying new things, especially if they make me feel awkward.

Lately I’ve been thinking about self-deprecation (it started when ephermata pointed me to the Goffman paper, and then I read some other things including a paper about other people’s opinions influencing your perception of yourself). In greek myth heroes proclaim their might and valor, whereas we prefer our modern heroes humble and modest. With increased wealth our society has become ‘nicer’. When you’re not worried about where you’re going to sleep tomorrow, you have more energy to devote to helping that old lady across the street. When a person calls himself an loser, I am likely to disagree and highlight why he is not a loser. Self deprecation is ‘useful’ because it makes people less likely to be mean to you. Everyone is insecure about something so perhaps we empathize with the dejection that often comes with failure. We don’t like to kick people while they’re down (unless it’s deserved). We do, however, like to kick arrogant people when they fall. The punishment, then, is for arrogance and not for failing.

ddolls movie
This is the first of 2 that I plan on making. It consists of highlights of the show. My second movie is gonna be more about me and clips from when Amy and I were on stage singing.

Sometime I consider buying a pro account so I can embed my movies in here, but then people on jumpcut could find my lj. I like keeping things semi-separate.

at gamh I don’t think in can go. fuck. Lovemakers show are so much fun. It will be almost impossible to get out of the house on new year’s eve, though.

o, and sonic living is sweet (and from oakland!). It’s a site that imports all the artists from your itunes list (or you can type in your own list) and then gives you a calendar view of when they’re playing in your area. O yes, and it also will pull things from your last.fm list.

anyone want to go with me to less than jake tomorrow?
I think I’m gonna get tix to mates of state too. (“I can’t wait to saayyeee all the things, that make you better!” Their music is so cute.)
