Yesterday was beautiful. Ryan (the CTO) told me I was doing a great job and he felt that I was really responsible and reliable. *weee!* Not only did I get into work at 11 and left at 5, but I also get Friday off ‘since we’ve all been working so hard’. With an hour and a half to spare yesterday before my Italian class, I went to Rasputin.
Here’s the rundown:
Broken Boy Soldiers by The Raconteurs – not bad, a bit White Strips-ey. It didn’t strike me as anything amazing. Their website is awesome, though.
Drowaton by The Starlight Mints – I like the variety of sounds they use. (Think Polyphony Spree, but much much less) Somehow they manage to blend violin and whistling into a song that remains interesting throughout. Favored tracks on Drowaton: Torts, Rhino Stomp, The Bee
Bring It Back by Mates of state – Many of their songs sound very similar, but it’s cute happy pop, so I don’t mind that much. Though, I don’t know if I could listen to the whole album straight through again in one sitting. Favored tracks are: Like U Crazy, For the Actor
I am a little disappointed that Mates of State is touring with Death Cab, only because tix are too hard to get and cost too much. I saw Death Cab a few years ago at the Fillmore and they’re not bad live, but they are certainly not worth more than $30 at the Berkeley Greek Theatre (venue suckage, and the show is sold out anyway). I also don’t particularly care for their newest album, Plans.
